Reedy Creek Golf Course Review (Four Oaks, NC)

Overview

If you’re looking for a reliable, affordable golf course near Raleigh, NC, Reedy Creek Golf Course is one of those spots that just quietly delivers. It’s not trying to be flashy or overly difficult—but it consistently gives you a solid round, good conditions, and a layout that’s actually fun to play more than once.

Conditions

For a course at this price point, the conditioning here stands out. The greens are usually the highlight—they roll true, hold shots well, and are generally more consistent than you’d expect from a public course in this range.

Fairways and tee boxes are kept in solid shape too. It’s not pristine country club-level conditioning, but it’s reliable, and that matters more when you’re playing a course regularly.

Layout & Playability

This is a classic Gene Hamm design—straightforward on the surface, but there’s enough going on to keep you engaged. It’s not overly long, but it still makes you think.

You’ll get a mix of holes where you can be aggressive and others where positioning matters a lot more. The greens aren’t huge, so approach shots become important, and if your irons are off, it’ll show pretty quickly.

It’s very playable for beginners, but still gives mid-handicaps a chance to go low—or get exposed if they’re not sharp.

Pricing (What It Costs to Play)

One of the biggest reasons this course keeps popping up when people look for affordable golf near Raleigh NC is the value.

Typical rates:

  • Weekdays: around $43-$60
  • Weekends: around $45–$73
  • Twilight: cheaper depending on time

For the condition and overall experience, it’s a very fair price, especially compared to other courses in the area.

Practice Facilities

Reedy Creek has everything you need to work on your game—driving range, putting green, and short game area. It’s a good spot not just for a round, but for getting reps in without having to bounce between locations.

Atmosphere & Experience

The vibe here is pretty simple: laid-back, local, and easy to enjoy. It’s a family-owned course, and it feels that way in a good sense.

Most of the time, the experience is smooth—friendly environment, no pressure, and a steady pace. You might run into the occasional hiccup with check-in or communication, but overall it’s a place that feels comfortable to play, especially if you’re going often.  I also hear they have a killer chicken sandwich, but I haven’t tried it yet.

What Golfers Are Saying

Reedy Creek has built a reputation as a course that stays in good shape and delivers consistent value. A lot of players treat it as a regular rotation course rather than a one-time visit, which usually says everything you need to know.

The biggest positives tend to be the greens, overall conditioning, and price. The only real drawbacks you’ll hear about are occasional service inconsistencies or minor condition fluctuations—but nothing that defines the experience.

Who This Course Is Best For

If you want a dependable public golf course near Raleigh that you can play often without overpaying, this is a great option. It’s especially good for beginners, weekend players, and anyone looking for a course that’s fair, playable, and consistently in decent shape.

Final Verdict

Reedy Creek isn’t trying to compete with high-end courses—and it doesn’t need to. It does exactly what most golfers are actually looking for: it’s in good shape, it plays fair, and it doesn’t cost a fortune.

If you’re searching for one of the more consistent and affordable golf courses in the Raleigh area, this is the kind of place you’ll end up playing more than once.

My Take

I have this ranked in the upper class of Johnston County golf courses and in one of my more recent posts, I actually put it number 1, although I feel this golf course, Neuse country club and Pine Hollow all to be in a very close race.  The hole 6 par 3 to me is beautiful and on the back 9 the locals call holes 12, 13 and 14 the “Gauntlet”, where the goal is to just not blow you’re round.  Hole 13 is another beauty with the water on your right.  It’s not overly punishing so as long as you’re not having a completely off day you should be able to keep the ball in play.  The owner and pro here are really nice guys as well.  For the price (especially compared to Raleigh courses) I feel it’s a great play and they have something called “The players club” that can even shave more $$ off your round for a better deal.  Worth exploring.
