Midland Country Club Review (Pinehurst, NC)

Overview

If you’re in Pinehurst and looking for a quick, affordable golf round without committing to a full 18, Midland Country Club is one of the easiest recommendations in the area.

Located just a few minutes from Pinehurst No. 2, this is one of the only 9-hole golf courses near Pinehurst, and it fills a really specific lane—short, playable, and perfect for a warm-up round or a quick loop when you don’t have five hours to spare.

Course Details

  • Location: Pinehurst, North Carolina
  • Course Type: Public (9-hole)
  • Length: Just over 3,000 yards (18-hole replay)
  • Par: 36 (per 9)
  • Sister Course: Knollwood Fairways (Southern Pines)

This is a classic Sandhills-style layout with a shorter yardage, but enough trouble to keep you honest.

Conditions

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t expecting much at this price point, but the conditions exceeded expectations.

The greens were the standout. They weren’t lightning fast, but they rolled true and were in much better shape than you’d expect for a course at this price. They’re also on the smaller side, which puts more pressure on your approach shots.

Fairways and overall turf were solid, and while the bunkers had that classic Sandhills look, the sand itself was a little heavier than ideal—definitely something you notice right away when you’re in one.

Layout & Playability

This is where Midland gets sneaky.

At just over 3,000 yards, it’s not long—and you really don’t need to hit driver that often. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

You’ll find:

  • Tree-lined holes that can punish misses
  • Smaller greens that demand accuracy
  • Strategic tee shots where placement matters more than distance

I actually had a solid round going until I hit two really bad drives, and both times I paid for it immediately—punch-outs, awkward chips, the whole deal.

There’s only water in play on a couple holes (1 and 9), so most of the challenge comes from angles, bunkering, and tight misses, not hazards everywhere.

It’s a course where:
👉 you can score if you stay in play
👉 but mistakes show up quickly if you get loose

Pricing (One of the Best Deals Near Pinehurst)

This is where Midland really stands out—especially for anyone searching for cheap golf near Pinehurst NC.

Typical rates:

  • ~$25 for 9 holes with cart
  • ~$16 walking

But the real value is in the prepaid options:

  • 10 rounds (with cart): $209
  • 10 rounds (walking): $129 (~$12.90 per round)
  • Valid at both Midland and Knollwood
  • No expiration

For Pinehurst? That’s tough to beat.

Practice Facilities

Midland itself is more of a “play and go” setup, but with its connection to Knollwood Fairways and Driving Range, you’ve got access to a more complete practice experience nearby.

Atmosphere & Experience

The vibe here is exactly what you’d expect—and want—from a course like this.

It’s:

  • Relaxed
  • Unpretentious
  • Easy to get on and off the course quickly

This isn’t a luxury experience—it’s a functional, enjoyable round of golf, especially if you’re mixing it in with bigger-name Pinehurst rounds.

What Golfers Are Saying

Even with limited public reviews, the overall sentiment lines up with my experience:

  • Better-than-expected conditions for the price
  • Fun, quick layout
  • Great value
  • Ideal for short rounds or warm-ups

Who This Course Is Best For

Midland is perfect for:

  • Golfers visiting Pinehurst looking for a quick round
  • Anyone wanting a warm-up before a bigger course
  • Players who enjoy shorter, strategic layouts
  • Budget-conscious golfers looking for affordable golf in Pinehurst

Final Verdict

Midland Country Club isn’t trying to compete with Pinehurst No. 2—and it shouldn’t.

It fills a completely different role:
👉 quick
👉 affordable
👉 and more fun than you’d expect

If you’re in the Pinehurst area and want one of the better 9-hole golf courses near Pinehurst, this is absolutely worth playing—especially at this price point.
