Overview
Greensboro National Golf Club in Summerfield, NC, has been a hot topic lately, and for good reason! This course offers a truly enjoyable experience, boasting a fantastic layout that keeps you on your toes. While the price has seen an increase recently, I can confidently say that after playing it, the course still delivers excellent value. It’s a semi-private gem, designed by Don and Mark Charles, that opened its doors in 1995, and it’s clear they’ve maintained a high standard ever since.
Course Layout
This 18-hole, par 72 course stretches to 7072 yards from the tips, with a challenging slope rating of 142 and a course rating of 73.8. The layout is a brilliant mix, offering some open, forgiving holes alongside others that demand precision and can quickly punish an errant shot. One of my absolute favorite parts of the course is a stunning stretch where you can take in four different holes, all beautifully separated by a large body of water. It’s a truly picturesque and memorable design element.
Notable Features
While I didn’t find specific hole numbers to highlight, the overall design by Don and Mark Charles ensures a memorable round. The course is known for its bent grass greens, which are meticulously maintained for consistent speed and quality. Plus, they’ve equipped their golf carts with technologically advanced GPS systems, providing accurate distances to the pin and seamless communication with the clubhouse staff, which is a fantastic touch for any golfer.
Course Conditions
The team at Greensboro National does an outstanding job keeping the course in solid condition. The tee box conditions are slightly above average, providing a good start to each hole. The green speed is above average, offering a quick and true roll, and the green conditions themselves are also above average, reflecting the care put into maintaining the bent grass. The fairways are equally impressive, with above-average conditions that make for enjoyable play throughout your round.
Value & Pricing
With a ‘High’ price point, Greensboro National is certainly an investment, but one I believe is worth it. The superior course conditioning, excellent customer service, and first-class amenities justify the cost. This course is best suited for golfers who appreciate a well-maintained, challenging, and scenic round, and are willing to pay a premium for a quality experience. It’s a course that consistently delivers value-driven enjoyment.
Final Verdict
Greensboro National Golf Club is a must-play in the Triad area. Despite the higher price, the exceptional course conditions, thoughtful layout, and overall enjoyable experience make it a standout. If you’re looking for a challenging yet rewarding round on bent grass greens, with beautiful views and top-notch facilities, Greensboro National is definitely worth adding to your list. I highly recommend it!
